Welcome to the Amazon Rift Aquarium web site, version 2. More updates of plants, fish, and other topics are being added, please check back frequently.
These pages are dedicated to bringing you information about the many fish species in and around the Amazon. The Amazon is a huge vast rain forest of which humans have not fully ventured. Many types of catfish and tetras live within these dark cluttered waters. The color of the water is often called "a well brewed tea" due to the staining occuring in the wild and in the home aquarium.
Before we get started, please take the time to look over the small fraction of the items in our Amazon store, all the products are brought to you by Florida Driftwood company. Please click the link in our store to visit these items and more. Our store is Java enriched meaning that you need the a newer version of your browser, or your Java needs to be enabled to view it.
Dead branches from surrounding trees float down streems and clutter creating the masses of "driftwood" that these animals enjoy in their "mini Amazon River." Wood is often very expensive. The best deals are around $12.99 for a medium to large piece. Trust me this a great deal for pretreated wood. To get great deals, and a varied selection, try out Florida Driftwood. In the wild where angelfish and discus live, there are fiewer aquatic plants as compared to the amount needed in the home aquarium. On the other hand all Amazon fish love aquatic plants. Angelfish pair up and spawn on large leaf Amazon Sword plants. Tetras also enjoy swimming through the plants. Remember that as long as the fish know they have a place to hide then they will feel comfortable enough to come out in the open.

Now that I have gone off topic, back to what this page is designed for. This web site is a step-by-step process of how I created my tank, hopefully it will solve TONS of questions you may have pertaining to fish and setting it up. The pictures were taken from my 75 gallon (tall) aquarium with my digital camera. There will hopefully be a detailed description of the fish that inhabit my tank, which of course is close minded towards the species you can have. You must remember that the Amazon River is huge and holds fish from the neons to freshwater sting rays, to four eyed fish (which I talk none of). With that, enjoy!
